February 28, 1944

Monday

"Went back to sleep after a guard woke me up to report to the brig.  I woke up in time but I've got luck always.
Worked out in the gym after school.
Got a letter from Mom and Sweet.
After chow I wrote some to Sweet.
Jay and I went to the show again and saw, "The Sullivans."  It was about those 5 brothers killed in sea action.  It was swell.  Guys like that should really be honored.  They did their best.
This life seems to do something to me anymore.  I seem to be waking up to the fact that I am lucky to be in the U.S.N., and an American and I'm proud of it.  I can accept it all now and not flinch if God is with me.  I'm more content now, and it is better this way.
I saw Ted Styre today.  He sure is thin and weak.  He must have had some time of it."
