Wednesday
"We had the training device this morning and I had both bow and stern plains. The chief really gave me hell till I caught on. In the Navy you are supposed to know things from the start, obey orders and keep your mouth shut. I did all three today. Had prison guard for supper tonight. Had a gand stick, 38 automatic and a riot gun. I could use them if I had too. Orders were to shoot first and ask questions afterwards. Orders are to be obeyed.
Wrote to Mom and sent $5. Got a letter from her but none from Sweet. I miss it too. I wrote to Sweet tonight. I love her more than life."
